WILSON — Mckenzie Strickland turned in a stellar performance during Southern Wayne’s 18-5, mercy-rule thrashing of Quad County 3A softball foe Fike on Tuesday afternoon.

Strickland batted 4-for-4 with three RBI and stole a career-high five bases.

Gracie Hinson (RBI) and center fielder Laura Summerlin (two RBI) contributed three hits apiece. Reagan Stribble, Morgan Brimberry and Kylie Barwick (three RBI) each pounded out two hits.

Megan Long (RBI) and Jocelyn Bond each had one hit.

The Saints had 15 stolen bases as a team.

Stribble threw a complete game inside the circle. The right-hander yielded five unearned runs and retired eight Golden Demons on strikeouts.

Southern Wayne (6-5 overall, 4-1 QCC) visits West Johnston on Friday. First pitch is 6 p.m.

Rebels’ game changed

ROSE HILL — North Duplin’s road game at Carolina 1A baseball rival Union was postponed Tuesday.

The teams will play a doubleheader April 20 at North Duplin.

The Rebels (8-2 overall, 2-0 Carolina) return home Thursday to face league rival Rosewood. First pitch is 6 p.m.

Saints soccer stumbles

WILSON — Southern Wayne endured a 9-0 loss to perennial girls’ soccer power Fike on the Quad County 3A scene Tuesday evening.

Saints keeper Amya Smith collected a career-high 25 saves.

Southern Wayne (5-4-1, 2-3 QCC) is the guest of West Johnston on Friday. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
