DUDLEY — Southern Wayne found its offensive groove through the middle innings and claimed a 12-7, come-from-behind victory over Quad County 3A softball rival Hunt on Friday evening.
Down 3-0 through 3 1/2 innings, the Saints plated seven runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth.
Laura Summerlin (three RBI) and senior Gracie Hinson (two RBI) paced Southern Wayne’s attack with three hits apiece. Reagan Stribble, Megan Long (two RBI) and Mckenzie Strickland (RBI) each contributed two hits.
Morgan Brimberry (RBI), Jocelin Aguilar (RBI) and Kylie Barwick each logged one hit in the scorebook.
Stribble emerged as the winning pitcher. The right-hander permitted seven earned runs on 12 hits, struck out two and walked one. The Warriors (3-4 overall, 0-2 QCC) connected on two home runs.
Southern Wayne (4-4, 2-2) entertains defending QCC champ South Johnston on Tuesday. First pitch is 6 p.m.
