The University of Mount Olive will hold its annual spring plant sale on Friday, April 14, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the UMO Greenhouse located at 205 Bert Martin Road in Mount Olive.

There will be various items for sale including: Boston Ferns, herbs, garden vegetables, Geraniums, flowering bedding plants, succulents, perennials, and mixed pots.

Students in several courses take ownership of these learning labs. Plants are grown from rooted cuttings, seeds, and purchased plugs. Students showcase their skills by growing potted plants, hanging baskets, herbs, garden vegetables, and various bedding plants. Students not only gain experience in horticulture, but also in running and operating a business.

The plant science program is guided by Dr. Jennifer Bradley and Dr. Jason Davis, who provide a wide range of experience in the field.

“The greenhouses on the UMO campus and the Kornegay Student Farm provide learning environments for students,” Davis stated. “Our plant sale is not only an opportunity to provide experience for our students, but it is also a service to our local community.”
