DUDLEY — Perennial softball power Princeton erupted for 14 runs in a three-inning stretch and dealt Southern Wayne a 15-0, mercy-rule defeat on Monday evening.
Morgan Brinberry cranked out two hits and collected an RBI for the Saints. Haley Wingate, Reagan Stribble, Gracie Hinson, Alyssa Darden and Jocelin Aguilar provided one hit apiece.
Stribble (1-1) took the mound loss. The right-handed hurler permitted 14 hits, walked one and retired three Bulldogs on strikeouts.
Princeton senior Averie Daughtry belted a two-run home run and concluded the day 2-for-4 at the plate.
Graci Martin and Reagan Adams combined for two strikeouts on the mound. The Bulldogs (3-0) collected their seventh win against the Saints lead the series 11-2 since 2010.
Southern Wayne (1-2) begins a stretch of four consecutive road contests Wednesday at county rival Spring Creek. First pitch is 5 p.m. at “The Swamp.”
Warriors blank Saints
DUDLEY — Southern Wayne endured a 9-0 loss to Quad County 3A boys’ tennis rival Hunt on Monday afternoon.
The Saints’ Aaron Whiting dropped a tough 7-6 (6), 6-4 loss at No. 2 singles. The junior was named the team’s “player of the match,” according to head coach David Van Dyke.
Southern Wayne (0-4 overall, 0-4 QCC) returns home Thursday to face South Johnston. First serve is 3:30 p.m.
