Businesses looking for a meaningful way to connect with and support the community — while also doing a bit of advertising — now have an opportunity to do just that thanks to a new sponsorship program at Faison’s Recreation and Wellness Center.

According to recreation director Matthew Scott, the center easily serves 600 kids a year, maybe more, coming not just from the Faison and Mount Olive areas, but from throughout Duplin County and part of Sampson. In addition to team sports (soccer, volleyball, and basketball), numerous summer camps are offered, including softball, baseball, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, cheerleading, art, kids’ Zumba, strength and wellness, and archery. Obviously, these offerings result in a lot of needs — sports equipment, art supplies, team shirts, and snacks for camp, just to name a few — and it’s difficult to meet all these needs on the limited funds the center receives from the town. Thus, the creation of the sponsorship program.

The program consists of three different levels of sponsorship: Team Sponsor, for $150, which entitles a business to have its name on one team’s shirts for one recreation season; Silver Sponsor, for $250, which entitles a business to have its name on one team’s shirts for one recreation season, plus its company logo will be on a 2’ x 3’ banner at the soccer field and its name will be on the sponsorship board in the gym; and Gold Sponsor, for $500, which entitles a business to have its name and logo on two teams during a recreation season, it will have the same recognition as listed for Silver Sponsor (banner on the soccer field and name on the gym sponsorship board) plus advertisement on the Recreation Center’s social media platforms, and three free entry passes to all recreation events for the year.

Businesses who wish to sign up for program now will be sponsoring teams for this fall and winter. “We’ve got fall volleyball, fall soccer, and in December we start basketball,” notes Scott.

Additionally, if individuals wish to make a donation (in any amount), they are welcome to do so. “Any donation, it doesn’t have to be a business, anyone that just wants to help put more into our community and more into our program, they can,” says Scott. Checks should be made payable to F.I.G. (Faison Improvement Group) Recreation Fund. This is a non-profit, so contributions are tax-deductible.

In addition to the needs previously listed, another important item the funds will be used for is scholarships for kids who want to participate in activities but are prevented from doing so because of cost. “I’ll be able to put those kids right in and they can play for free,” says Scott.

Anyone with questions about the sponsorship program or an individual donation is asked to contact Matthew Scott at 910-267-0115. Faison’s Recreation and Wellness Center is located at 187 Park Circle.
