Athlete of the Week

Name: Stephone Stanley

School: James Kenan

Sport: Boys’ Basketball

Year: Junior

Parents: Tamica Williams

Hometown: Warsaw

A multi-sport athlete, Stanley endured an injury to his non-shooting hand during football season. He came off the bench during the Tigers’ first four games, but found his way into the starting lineup. The 6-foot guard helped lead the Tigers to a third-place finish in the 11th annual Greater Neuse River Fellowship of Christian Athletes Winter Classic. He was a first-team, all-tournament selection.

Tigers head coach Taylor Jones said, “He’ll tell you at times last year and the year before that he was kind of hard to deal with, but it’s maturity. He started to figure it out that he can really do this. He’s a really good basketball player. I put him in the starting lineup because of his talk, his attitude and his leadership were on point. He comes to work on time [in the gym], sets examples, gets extra work in.”
