Reece recently signed a national letter-of-intent to play softball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. According to Rebels athletics director Ricky Edwards, Reece signed became just the fourth – and first female — to sign an NLI with an Atlantic Coast Conference school. The shortstop established four single-season program records last season — runs scored (60), hits (61), RBI (50) and home runs (14). She is also the program’s all-time career leader in those some four categories – 122 runs scored, 109 hits, 63 RBI and 20 home runs. She helped lead the Rebels to a runner-up finish in the 2023 NC High School Athletic Association Class 1A state championship series.A
Rebels head coach Jaime Kylis said, “The first time I met Reece was when she was eight years old on the University of Mount Olive softball field. From that first encounter playing catch with her I knew she would be special. Coaching and watching her grow in the game all these years has been lots of fun and I’m thrilled to see her live her dream out at UNC-Chapel Hill. On behalf of my family and the NDHS Rebel softball family, we couldn’t be more proud.”
