Town Manager seeking new sewer plant options

Mount Olive Town Manager Charles Brown will participate in an annual workshop at the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill next month that deals with water/wastewater financial issues. He said the workshop focuses on water issues, including legal issues such as water and sewer rates.

Brown wants to take it further. He has asked Institute authorities if it is possible to also set up a special workshop to deal with storm water issues.

“This is a growing problem statewide, and not just Mount Olive,” Brown said. He noted the issue simply does not produce any revenue, but continues to be a major improvement need.

The town manager said the other side of the coin is there is simply “no water out there” to help municipalities deal with the problem. “Right now, there is nowhere we can go for help with storm water management,” Brown said.
