Town commissioners expected to reverse previous dissolution of housing authority

The Mount Olive Town Board of Commissioners in monthly session on January 8 is expected to rescind the earlier action that dissolved the local housing authority’s board of directors.

That dissolution was to have been effective of February 13. However, since the board’s previous dissolution action, new Mayor Joe Scott has turned the controversy around.

Scott earlier named former Mayor Ray McDonald, Sr. as acting chairman of the housing authority board of directors. The housing board at that time had only two active members. Scott has sworn in McDonald and two new board members: Martin Weeks and Brent Heath.

McDonald, Weeks and Heath join already active members Al Southerland and LaTasha Williams on the five-member board of directors.

Mayor Scott said he expects the next step is for acting chair McDonald to initiate the reorganization process of the board of directors.
