2018 kicks off with annual Pickle Drop

The 28 degree temperature didn’t have much of an effect on the public Sunday night, Dec. 31, as the Annual Mount Olive Pickle Drop took place at 7 p.m., or midnight Greenwich Mean Time. About 1,600 people turned out to watch the Pickle Drop at the corner of Cucumber and Vine Street at Mount Olive Pickle Company. Music could be heard from a local band, and a DJ spun some line dance music prior to the pickle drop. Shortly before the drop, people started gathering around the old preserved pickle vat with their party hats and horns, ready to ring in the new year. (photos by Bobby Williams)
