The Mount Olive Pickle Company was named the 2017 Industry of the Year at last week’s annual Wayne County Development Alliance annual Industry Appreciation Awards banquet.

The event culminated Industry Appreciation Month.

Other awards went to the Arnold-Wilbert Corporation, recipient of the Why Wayne Works Award; and Milestone Achievement Awards to SPX Flow Technology, 35 years; Mission Foods, 30 years; SPX Transformer Solutions, 50 years; Rujel/P-Core, 30 years; and Tillman’s Restaurant Equipment, 15 years.

Tiffany Creech, Wayne Alliance Existing Industry Manager, detailed to those attending the annual banquet the ling history of the pickle company. She noted it formally organized in 1926 and had 13 original shareholders.

“This company carries the name of its hometown to all 50 states and has the best selling brand of pickles, peppers, and relishes in grocery stores across the nation,” she said. “Even as it has worked to achieve its position as the leading national brand, it has remained true to its original proposition.”

She said for nine decades the company has served as a mainstay in the economic well-being of its community. “It has done so by focusing on the ultimate goals that are closer to home; to produce an excellent product, to provide a fair return to its shareholders, to be a progressive, compassionate employer, and to remain a valued corporate citizen in the community,” she said.

She also noted that the company broke production records with 15 million cases produced in fiscal year 2016. Its physical footprint in the community is at its largest ever, with 1.1 million square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space across 150 acres, Ms. Creech said.

Those attending the banquet were then treated to a video explaining in detail why the Mount Olive Pickle Company was named Wayne County’s Most Outstanding Industry for 2017.

She said the past and current leadership has played a significant role in the success of the company.
