A joint probe by investigators from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has resulted in a heroin trafficking charge, seizure of nearly 10 pounds of pure heroin, and one of the biggest drug busts ever in the county.
An Albertson man is charged on one count of Level 3 trafficking of heroin. Bond for Gabriel Mancilla Ribera was set at $1.5 million.
The arrest came after members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Drug unit and the Raleigh DEA office executed a search warrant at 4592 Emmaus Church Road in Mount Olive. Investigators said they seized five kilos (approximately 10 pounds) of pure heroin. They said it had an estimated street value of $7 million once it was broken down.
They also said the large amount of heroin would have generated approximately 250,000 individual dosage units.
“This is one of the largest heroin seizures in Wayne County history,” said Sheriff Larry Pierce.
