Details at this time are still sketchy, but a shooting around 6 p.m. Saturday night, August 26, at Nino’s Restaurant on North Breazeale Avenue left a man hospitalized. He later died at Vidant Care in Greenville, where he had been airlifted from the hospital in Goldsboro.
Mount Olive Police Chief Tommy Brown identified the victim as Jared Painter, the manager of the family-owned business. The injury was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach, the chief said.
Chief Brown said investigation indicates the shooting took place in a storage room at the rear of the restaurant. There were no other injuries involved in the shooting, police said.
