A recent apparent domestic dispute ended in tragedy for a local family.

The apparent murder/suicide is under investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.

A man and woman who had lived together as man and wife and had children were both declared dead at separate scenes from a July 23 incident.

Officers responding to a disturbance call at 1351 Ditchbank Road discovered a female victim lying in a large pool of blood in a bathroom area of that residence. She was later identified as 25-year-old Karla Ayde-Garcia Arellano of that address. Emergency personnel at the scene declared the woman dead.

About an hour later, just before midnight, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Piney Grove Road in Seven Springs. There, they said, they found Javier Garcia Aguilar, 35, of 1351 Ditchbank Road slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was still running and sitting in the middle of the travel lane with the headlights still on.

EMS personnel also declared him dead at the scene, from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department learned that both victims had lived together for some time and had two children. They said the pair had recently parted ways.

Arellano and Aguilar had met in an attempt to reconcile the relationship, but had argued on the same date as the incidents. Aguilar had contacted a family member around 10:15 the same night and insisted that family member “come now” to the Ditchbank Road residence.

According to investigators, at 10:30 p.m. on July 23, Aguilar arrived at the home of the female victim’s parents in Goldsboro. They said he dropped two children off, and then left without providing an explanation.

Officers said the parents became concerned about their daughter and drove to the 1351 Ditchbank Road address, where they discovered her in the back bathroom. They called 911 for assistance.

Based on their interviews, investigators believe it to have been a murder/suicide, and no other suspects are being sought.

Major Richard Lewis said in a news release, “From the evidence discovered at the scene on Piney Grove Road, it appears that Javier Garcia Aguilar died as result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The cause of death of Karla Ayde-Garcia Arellano is yet to be determined. Both will be sent for an autopsy, and the case is still under investigation.”

Detective Sergeant Mike Kabler is the lead investigator in the case.
