Pedestrian struck, killed on Hwy. 55

A Hispanic male was struck and killed this (Wednesday, July 26) morning on Highway 55 East near Camp Jubilee Road. Members of the Indian Springs Fire Department, Pricetown Fire Department, and EMS units were dispatched to the scene of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Highway 55 East near Camp Jubilee Road. They found an unresponsive Hispanic male lying in the east bound lane. A 2012 Ford pickup truck driven by Mount Olive resident Rex Hatch was heading east on Highway 55 when the man ran out of a driveway in front of him. Mr. Hatch braked and tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A section of Highway 55 was closed to traffic while the North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash scene. Pricetown FD rerouted the traffic around the incident. The name of the pedestrian was withheld while family members were notified. Officials said no charges will be filed in the accident. (photo by BOBBY WILLIAMS)
