WCHD revises vaccination plan

Posted

Wayne County was one of the first health departments in North Carolina to begin vaccinating Phase 1B Group 1 individuals Wednesday.

Due to the overwhelming demand for the COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 75 and older, we have revised our process in order to streamline our registration.

Beginning today, the county will open a COVID-19 vaccine registration hotline available Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The number is 919-705-1800.

In-person vaccination scheduled for the Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center and Carver Cultural Center Gymnasium are cancelled. Individuals will need to call the hotline to register for an appointment. Call takers will complete the registration paperwork that is required by the state, and will schedule an appointment if one is available.

If all appointment slots are full, residents will be placed on a waiting list until the Wayne County Health Department receives more doses of the vaccine. Keep in mind, supplies of the vaccine are limited and WCHD is unable to vaccinate everyone at one time.

Once additional doses arrive, call takers will contact those on the waiting list and schedule an appointment.

For the past 11 months, WCHD has fought non-stop against the COVID-19 pandemic. As we navigate through the ever-changing vaccination phase, department officials ask for your continued patience and understanding while WCHD works to ensure that county residents are vaccinated as quickly as possible.
