Put on your shag dance shoes and head to Benson’s Singing Grove for a night of Carolina beach music. The Sundown and Downtown concert series will continue from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 9, with music by the popular act The Embers featuring Craig Woolard.
Admission is free, just bring your blankets or lawn chairs for a evening under the oaks listening to music. Concessions will be available to purchase.
The Embers have had numerous albums and singles over the decades, performing its brand of soul, rhythm and blues and Carolina beach music. The Hall of Famers have performed such tunes as “I Love Beach Music,” “What You Do to Me,” “Love Don’t Come No Stronger,” “I’ve Gotta A Feeling” and “That’s Summertime To Me.”
Lead singer and frontman Craig Woolard has performed for presidents, governors and ambassadors, and has appeared on stage with such groups as The Four Tops, The Temptations, the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and others. In honor of his contributions to the industry, he was inducted to the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame in 2011.
Other members of the award-winning group are Bobby Tomlinson, Stephen Pachuta, Jeff Grimes, Andy Swindell, Gerald Davis and Bobby Nantz.
Mark your calendars for this year’s Sundown in Downtown concerts. All concerts are from 6 to 9 p.m., with the exception of Sept. 26, which starts at 7:30 p.m. The schedule includes:
The Singing Grove is located at 400 E. Main St., Benson. In case of inclement weather, concerts are moved to the American Legion Building on U.S. 301 South, Benson.
