The Lady Gators cheer squad had a big night at the Wayne County Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Spring Creek Middle walked away with the first place trophy while the high school squad was awarded third place out of seven high schools.
Under coach Mary Hare, this is the first time the Gators have competed in the cheer competition at the fair. Hare likes to describe her team as being well-balanced. There are five freshman, seven sophomores, three juniors, and six seniors on the squad this year. With the middle school winning first place, the future of cheerleading looks to have a promising future.
“I am really proud of how the squad performed on and off the mat,” Hare said. “They put in a lot of time and effort to make the routine the best it can be. We have two seniors who have been on the squad all four years. They have shown patience, commitment and dedication as leaders this year. This squad has gained more confidence now and will continue to strive for a greater performance at county and conference competition.”
