Wayne County Public Schools have announced early dismissals and closures for Thursday ahead of expected wintry weather that may make for hazardous traveling conditions.
WCPS issued the following statement Wednesday:
“Due to the threat of inclement weather forecast for our area beginning as early as tomorrow afternoon, all schools on the traditional academic calendar along with Goldsboro High School will dismiss 3 hours early, tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 20. All students and staff will dismiss 3 hours earlier than usual to ensure everyone is home and all buses are off the roads before potential freezing and slick conditions occur. All after school programs are also canceled for Thursday afternoon.
“For Wayne Early/Middle College High School and the Wayne School of Engineering, both of these schools will be closed to students and it will be an optional workday for staff.
“The district administration is closely monitoring weather forecasts for our area and will remain in close communication with Wayne County Emergency Management officials throughout this weather event.”
