Mount Olive’s newest eatery has opened its doors for business.

Empy’s Seafood & Bar-B-Q is now in operation and features a seating capacity of 48. It employs 15.

Manager Brittan Horrell said the business will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.

It is a dine in or take out business. Empy’s is located at 128 N. Center St. where the old Valin’s Cafeteria operated.

The restaurant features fresh Calabash style seafood and old fashioned type barbecue.

Other Empy’s restaurants are located in Wallace, Clinton, and Wilmington.

Town manager Charles Brown called the opening of the new restaurant a “big boost for the downtown area.”

“Everyone has been anxiously awaiting the initial opening and we are delighted to have them in Mount Olive,” said the town manager.

He said it adds to the downtown area and another restaurant was badly needed.

“Another restaurant brings traffic to the downtown area and now it gives people a choice,” Brown added.
