Homecomings, reunions coming up


Greetings from the Wesley Smith Chapel community.

Several special events are coming up at local churches:

  • First Baptist Church in Calypso will hold its fall revival Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights at 7:30 with guest revivalist preacher Elder Michael Maddox of Wallace.
  • St. Luke Church of Christ, 636 Waller Road, will host an 11 a.m. worship service Sunday with Elder Kenneth Freeman delivering the message and music by the choir. At 3 p.m., the St. Luke Choir will celebrate its anniversary with special guests Johnny Faison and the Gospeltones of Raleigh, Goldsboro’s St. Luke Male Chorus, soloist Teddy Harper of Goldsboro and The Joy Sisters of Faison.
  • The Goldsboro Raleigh Assembly Church, 214 W. Hooks River Road, Goldsboro, will celebrate Family Reunion Fun Day on Sept. 21, starting at 8:30 a.m. with a unity prayer walk, followed by a day of fun from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lots of vendors, activities and many games for adults and children, including a chance to dunk a bishop.   • Parkers Chapel OFWB Church, 312 Fedelon Trail, Goldsboro will present a pre-pastoral celebration breakfast honoring Pastor Doretha Brown at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. Donations of $10 will be collected.
  • Little Rock Church of Christ, 1307 N.C. Highway 581, Pikeville will celebrate its 139th church anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 with Elder Rodney Core set to deliver the message and music by the choir. Dinner will be served. The theme of the event will be “God Did It Again.”
  • Paynes Temple AMEZ Church on Center Street invite you to a homecoming celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 with preacher Elder Ronald Miller and the St. James AMEZ Church, its choir, usher and congregation of Goldsboro rendering the service. Dinner will be served. The Rev. Sylvester Smith and Paynes Temple Church family invite you to come and fellowship.
  • An appreciation celebration for longtime musician Patrick Atkinson will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Goshen Disciple Church, 7120 Suttontown Road, Faison with the Atkinson Family Mass Choir, The Wade Sisters Kingdom Builders of Goldsboro and LaManuel Boykins of Reigelwood. Come and help show love to Patrick Atkinson, who played for Goshen for many years. His celebration is long overdue.
  • An 18th appreciation celebration for yours truly will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 with special guest Bishop Richard W. Johnson and the St. Peters Church of Christ Choir, usher and congregation of Smithfield rendering the service at St. Luke Church of Christ, 636 Waller Road, where the Pastor Elder Kenneth Freeman invites you.
  • New St. Delight Holiness Church on Suttontown Road will host a banquet honoring Lady Gardener at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 with guest preacher and evangelist Dr. Ernestine McGee of Wilson. For more information, call Sis Brenda Lee at 919-922-5305. The pastor Elder Gardener invites you to come and show love.
  • New Life Worship Center, 218 Maple St., invites you to worship with the church every first, second, and fourth Sunday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Janice Williams delivering the message. Williams will be the guest preacher at Macedonia MB Church in Lacoma at 11 a.m. this Sunday. At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18, she will be the guest preacher at Rowe Church Ministry in Wilson.

    I want to wish a happy 15th anniversary to my daughter and son-in-law Dante and Schenita Davis Randolph, who celebrated Sept. 4. The couple lives in Mebane. Happy anniversary to Fred and Gloria Martin, who celebrated Sept. 3; and to Jalen Sr. and Thea Michelle Williams, who celebrated their 31st anniversary on Sept. 3.

    Happy birthday to Fred Martin on Sept. 4; and to Pastor Ray Williams of Shacklefree Church in Goldsboro on Sept. 3, from your wife Elder Sandra Williams and all of your employees at Bread of Heaven Restaurant.

    Happy 23rd pastor’s anniversary to Dr. Everlena Oliver, who has served as pastor of St. Jude Church of Christ in Warsaw.

    Happy special birthday to Mother Bettie Boykin, who celebrated Aug. 27, from your husband Monte Boykin Sr., your children, your grandchildren, your pastor Elder Scottie and Tonya Rogers and the Holy Temple Church family of Calypso.

    Happy eighth anniversary to Bishop Dedrick and Elder Tachala Hood, who celebrated Aug. 26, from Elder Kenneth and Mother Vesta Freeman and the St. Luke Church family of Mount Olive. Happy 50th anniversary to Geraldine Wells and her husband on Aug. 26 from your New Jackson Tabernacle Church family and Pastor Betty Faison. Happy first pastoral anniversary to Bishop Ronnie Hood, who marked his first year on Aug. 25. Elder Kenneth Freeman and the St. Luke Church Choir, the usher and the church’s congregation celebrated with him and St. Stephens of Princeton.

    Happy 17th pastoral anniversary to District Elder Anthony and Lady Elect Vickie Flow of St. Luke UHC in Rose Hill.

    Happy special birthday to my wonderful, amazing cousin Sandra Ward of Miami, Florida on Sept. 1 and to Daskeik Smith, Reginald Henderson of Charlotte, Orletta Faison of Clinton and Dwayne Washington of Virginia, who all celebrated Sept. 2.

    Happy special birthday to Mother Linda Musgrave from your children, from Elder Ernest and Elder Sadie Watson and the St. James Church family and from Elder Kenneth and Mother Vesta Freeman and the St. Luke Church family. We love you and may God continue to bless you to have many more.

    Happy special birthday to Trustee Larry Baker, who celebrates Thursday, from your wife Teresa Baker and your children and grandchildren and from your Pastor Elder Kenneth Freeman and your St. Luke Church family. We love you and thank you for your service as you stand at the door of St. Luke Church to welcome and assist people as they enter the house of the Lord. What an awesome job you are doing.
