Dudley man accused of shooting at home, inciting fear

A Dudley man faces charges after he discharged a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Authorities jailed 65-year-old Clyde Melvin Taft of 182 Brooks Terrace Drive.

Wayne County Sheriff deputy L.T. Pate said the incident occurred on March 22.

Pate said deputies responded to a shots fired call on Brooks Terrace Road. The victim stated an older white male shot at his home.

While en route to the call, deputies located Taft’s vehicle that had fled the scene and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. He eventually stopped south of Northeast Church Road on U.S. Highway 117 Alternate and was immediately placed in handcuffs, according to deputies.

During the search of Taft’s vehicle, a shotgun and a small revolver were located along with spent shotgun shells.

Deputies charged Taft and jailed him under a $10,000 secured bond.
