Cooper: Larger venues allow to open at 7% capacity

Though North Carolina remains in Phase 2.5 of his re-opening plan, Gov. Roy Cooper announced Tuesday that larger outdoor event venues with seating capacity over 10,000 may open at 7% capacity if key metrics concerning COVID-19 remain stable.

Cooper said he hopes to ease other restrictions on when his current executive order expires Oct. 2.

The NC Mortgage, Utility and Rent Relief Program will direct $40 million to small businesses, according to Cooper.

Shortages of volunteers and record demand at food banks has directed Cooper to mobilize 125 NC National Guard soldiers to support operations at 10 food banks statewide.

Dr. Mandy Cohen, secretary of NC Health and Human Services, announced the launch of Slow Covid NC, a new exposure notification app. State medical outlets have reported nearly 200,000 lab-confirmed positive cases of coronavirus and nearly 3,300 deaths.
