The Mount Olive Town Board of Commissioners approved two resolutions authorizing negotiations to purchase two parcels of land adjoining the Mount Olive Municipal Airport.
The tracts are owned by William Potts family farm and Eddie Lee Faucette. The property will be used to construct a parallel taxiway at the airport runway.
Pilots expressed safety concerns about the runway, which can handle small jet engine aircraft.
In other board action, engineering officials updated the board on the current status of the Community Development Block Grant for Neighborhood Revitalization.
David Harris of Harris Associates of Goldsboro, the town’s administrator for the CDBG program, said he expects bids will be opened in July for the housing rehab or replacement program.
The $750,000 project involves the replacement of five houses in the south end of town.
The board was also told it needs to give thoughts to naming a town representative on the Wayne County Development Alliance Board of Directors.
It will be back on the board’s agenda at the June 14 meeting.
