The annual litter sweep community service project of the Concerned Citizens Committee will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.
Participants are asked to meet at Nelson Street Park.
The Concerned Citizens Committee is staging the clean-up campaign in concert with the annual spring litter sweep of the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Town Manager Charles Brown lauded the citizens group for the cleanup project.
“We certainly appreciate what they do in taking their personal time to rid the town of litter,” he said.
Brown noted that the N.C. Department of Transporation holds a statewide Litter Sweep in the spring and the fall.
The town of Mount Olive also participates in a fall litter clean-up in conjunction with athletes from the University of Mount Olive. Usually, about 100 UMO athletes participate.
The state provides gloves, vests and trash bags, and the town normally feeds the athletes when the litter sweep concludes. The town provides whatever the participants need, Brown added.
This weekend’s clean-up effort will also conclude with a meal for participants.
Personnel provided by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department will also help with this weekend’s litter program.
