Chamber to host candidate forum

A Meet The Candidate forum sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the Steele Memorial Library at 119 W. Main St. The nonpartisan event is open to the public.

“The chamber wanted to provide an opportunity to engage our community in the forthcoming election,” said Chamber President Julie Beck.

She said the event will provide Mount Olive citizens a chance to increase understanding of the election process and the candidates seeking re-election or election.

“The questions, asked by a moderator, will cover a broad range of issues,” Beck said.

Invitations have been forwarded to mayoral candidates, incumbent Joe Scott, and challengers Kenny Talton, and Jessie Jack Faison.

Other contenders include those running for board of commissioner seats, incumbents Harlie Carmichal, Vicky Darden, Dennis Draper, Barbara Kornegay, and Steve Wiggins and newcomer Andrade Oliver.

A moderator will ask the candidates four questions, and oversee the forum. In addition to the four questions, each candidate will have an opportunity to give opening and closing statements.

No questions will be accepted from the audience.

The election will be held on Nov. 5. For more information about the upcoming forum, call the Chamber at 919-658-3123.
