Black History Month events, revivals coming up at local churches


Greetings and blessings from the Wesley Smith Chapel Community.

The following services and revivals are coming up this month:

  • Worship services at St. Luke are held every first and third Sunday morning at 11 a.m. with praise and worship beginning at 10:45. Sunday school is at 9:45 with Bible studies at 7 p.m. every Wednesday night. On Sunday morning, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. we will observe Black History Month with our guest speaker. On the third Sunday morning, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. we will celebrate Love Day. At 3 p.m., a Love Day Celebration will be held with music by the St. James Male Chorus of Goldsboro and others.
  • Goshen Disciple Church on Suttontown Road in Faison will continue its revival through Friday with services at 7:30 each night with Evangelist Alma Darden giving the word. Different choirs will render the music each night. The Pastor Elder Donald DeWitt invites you.
  • Pastor Renita Butts will celebrate her fifth pastoral anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at R. Butts Restored For A Purpose Church Ministry on 58 Old Crow Road, Newton Grove, with Pastor Benestine Royal of Deliverance Center Church in Newton Grove as the special guest at 11 a.m. and Elderess Vickie Flow and the St. Luke UHC choir and congregation of Rose Hill and the St. Stephen UH Church of Turkey leading the service at 4 p.m. For more information, call 919-429-1158.
  • New Greenleaf Church of Christ, 301 Hooks River Road, Goldsboro, will present its mission kick-off service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 with special guest Elder Aaron Jarman delivering the word.   • Miracle of Faith Ministry, 709 S. Chestnutt St., invites you to a revival on Jan. 27, 28, 30 and 31 at 7 each night with guest preachers Pastor Paula Artis of God’s House Ministry in the MarMac community, Pastor Jimmy Melvin of Mount Zion AMEZ Church of Delway and Pastor Leon Cromartie of Overcoming Faith Church Ministry of Fayetteville. The focus will be on today’s youth. Pastor Elder Dorothy McDaniel invites all to come and fellowship. For more details, call 919-658-4959.
  • Howell Chapel Church of Christ, 214 East Preston St., Selma, will present Divine Healing with Healthy Living at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 with Elderess Shannon Dean and Lady Elect Nikki Robinson.     Barbara Jones celebrated her 60th birthday. She was honored with a surprise birthday celebration at the community building in Faison in a party hosted by her children and her husband. What a surprise! Happy birthday, Barbara! May God bless you yo have many more from your family, your mother, Edna Faison, and your brothers.
