Anticipated church events planned


Greetings from the Wesley Smith Chapel Community. Ryan Emanuel Ward graduated from Kennedy Krieger High School on June 12. Ryan is the son of Reginald and Irnita Ward of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and the grandson of Ezekial and Lillie Ward. The Ezekial and Lillie Ward family congratulate Ryan on his accomplishments. Ryan Ward has determination and prayers.

A special thank you to Elder Rodney Core and Little Rock Church choir of Pikeville for rendering the service on Sunday during our Men’s Day and Father’s Day celebration at St. Luke Church. Thank you to Marcus Lee, William Quinn and Uncle Joe King for your participation and to Dennis Ward for being our Men’s Day speaker.

In memory of Father’s Day, I dedicate his column to our late friend and member, Brother Linwood Darden. We miss you so much.

Congratulations to Marlon Coley who was honored on June 16 at St. Luke Church. He graduated from Campbell University.

The Goldsboro-Raleigh District Union meeting will be held at Goldsboro-Raleigh District Assembly, 211 W. Hooks River Road, Goldsboro, Friday through Sunday with a business meeting starting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday and a worship service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Everlena Oliver delivering the message. An appreciation luncheon will be held for Bishop Richard and Lady Elder Faye Johnson at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall that day. Tickets are $20. On Sunday, at 11 a.m. Elder Mary Brown will deliver the message after Sunday school, which starts at 9:45 a.m. Bishop Robert Hood and Vice Bishop Rodney Parker invite you to come and fellowship. The Levi Tribe (purple) is in charge.

St. Luke Church of Christ, 636 Waller Road, Mount Olive, will host a worship service at 11 a.m. July 7 with Elder Kenneth Freeman delivering the message and St. Luke Gospel Choir providing the music.

Pastor Janice Williams invites you to a worship service at New Life Worship Center, 218 Maple St., Mount Olive, at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 7, and at 11 a.m. July 14. Williams will also be the guest preacher at City of Champions Worship Center in Goldsboro. A pre-anniversary celebration for Pastor Janice Williams will be held at 7:30 p.m. each night on July 18-19 with guest preacher Apostle Jackie London of Pillar Fire Worship Center of Warsaw.

New Life Worship Center will celebrate Pastor Janice Williams 25th pastoral anniversary at 11 a.m. July 28 with guest preacher Elder Matthew McNair and Alum Spring Church Choir and congregation of Dover leading the service.

A revival service will be held at 7:30 p.m. July 31-Aug. 2 at St. James Church on Breazeale Avenue with revivalist preacher Dr. Timothy Peppers. The Pastor Elder Ernest and Evangelist Sadie Watson invite you to come and fellowship. A worship service is to be held every second and fourth Sunday at 11 a.m. with Sunday school starting at 9:45 and Bible Study every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Mark your calendar and save the date Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. for St. Luke Church of Christ’s Homecoming Celebration. The Ezekial and Annie Ward family reunion will be held on Aug. 9-11 with a meet-and-greet to be held on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m., a banquet and dinner to be held at the Maxwell Center in Goldsboro on Aug. 10 and a worship service at 11 a.m. on Aug. 11. Our prayers and sympathy are with the family of Emma Carlton who was memorialized on Friday at Holy Ghost Cathedral Church at 2 p.m. with Eric Matthew and Majestic Funeral Home of Elizabethtown in charge of arrangements. Her son, Larry Carlton, would like to say a special thank you for the prayers, many phone calls, food or whatever part you have played in comforting the family during the passing of his mother, Emma.

Congratulations to Samyia Bess, who graduated from Southern Wayne High School, and Destiny Wooten, who graduated from Winston-Salem State University, from Elder Kenneth Freeman and your St. Luke Church family.

Happy special birthday to my daughter, Dr. Schenita Davis Randolph, on July 7 and to my grandson, Joshua Alexander Randolph, on July 11. In memory of my mother, Ethel Weeks Ward, and my brother, Arnold Ward, who would have birthdays on July 17, Carlton (Butch) Ward on July 10, Vancie (Pete) Ward Jr. on July 23, and my Granddaddy Purvis Weeks on July 18. Happy birthday in heaven. You are forever in our hearts and we miss you all.

Happy special birthday to my sister-in-law, Dorothy Inez Ward, on July 27 from your husband Ronald, your daughter and your grandchildren and yours truly, Glenda. I love you dearly and I truly appreciate you so much.

Our prayers, sympathy and love are with the family of Cousin Mary Frances Lane. Edward’s Funeral Home in Rocky Mount is in charge of her service’s arrangements. She was a long-time resident of Mount Olive where she was in the school system at Carver School and a church musician for many churches such as St. Luke Missionary Baptist, Summerlin Crossroads, Payne Temple and others. Cousin Mary Frances will surely be missed by her family and the Ezekial and Annie Ward Family Reunion. Rest in peace. No more pain, no more heartaches. She was a woman full of wisdom and love for her family.

Dante, Schenita, Joshua and Kaelyn Randolph had a vacation in Orlando, Florida, along with the Wright Family of Greenville on June 20-25. Kaelyn and Schenita spent June 14-15 with yours truly, Glenda. Dianne West, her sister, Jean Bynum, and yours truly, Glenda, had a girl’s night on June 19. Judy Dianne and Franklin Davis, Bridgette Barfield and Stephene Cox had lunch at Murray’s Restaurant on the afternoon of June 19.

Happy 32nd wedding anniversary to Elder Kenneth and Mother Vesta Freeman, who celebrated June 9, and congratulations to these proud grandparents of a baby boy born on June 16, from your St. Luke Church family.
