Anniversaries, revival, prayer conference coming up


Greetings from the Wesley Smith Chapel community!

Several events have been planned at local churches.

  • St. Jude Church of Christ in Warsaw will celebrate Dr. Everlena Oliver’s 23 years as pastor now through Sunday with the schedule of remaining services as follows: On Wednesday with Dr. Cynthia Buck, Thursday with Apostle Annie Rawls, Friday with Elder K. Parrish Sr. and at 11 a.m. Sunday with Apostle Rod Broadnax and the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Macon, Mississippi. To climax the anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sunday, a service featuring Elder Ray Bolton, the Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church choir, usher and congregation of Clinton is planned. St. Jude Church of Christ invites each and everyone to come and help celebrate 23 years with Oliver. Happy anniversary!
  • An International Apostolic Prayer Conference will be held Friday through Sunday at Pillar of Fire Worship Center, on N.C. Highway 24 in Warsaw, where the pastor is Apostle Jacki London. For more information, contact minister Jennifer Harrington at 336-456-8970. A block of rooms have been reserved for guests attending the event at the Sleep Inn, 203 N.C. Highway 55, Mount Olive.
  • A revival joy service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with guest preacher Apostle Rod Broadnax of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Macon, Mississippi, delivering the message at New Life Worship Center, 218 E. Maple St., Mount Olive. Pastor Janice Williams invites you.
  • New Life Worship Center invites you to worship with them on the first, second and fourth Sundays of the month at 11 a.m. Elder Janice Williams will deliver the message this Sunday. Elder James Crawford will deliver the word on Sept. 8. On Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m., the church will host a lunch plate sale held and sponsored by Laura Elliott and the New Life Worship Center. The menu will consist of trout, chicken, string beans, coleslaw and baked beans. Single plates will be sold for $7 or a combination plate for $8.   • Elder Anthony Ezzell and the First Baptist Church choir and congregation of Calypso will render the service at Mount Calvary Church in LaGrange at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Holy Temple United Holy Church in Calypso will celebrate Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, with Elder Scottie Rogers set to deliver the message and the choir will provide the music.
  • Goshen Disciple Church, 7120 Suttontown Road, Faison, will celebrate its youth choir’s anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. with several groups on the program. The pastor Elder Donald DeWitt and the Goshen church youth adviser invites you to come and celebrate.
  • Pastor Janice Williams will be the guest preacher at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Lacoma at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. On Wednesday night, Sept. 18, at 7:30, Williams will be the guest preacher at Rowe Church in Wilson. On Friday night, Sept. 13 at 7:30, Williams will deliver the word at Deliverance Temple of God where Elder Ronnie Harris is pastor. She will deliver the message at City of Champion Church Ministry in Goldsboro, where Nicholas Jackson is pastor at a worship service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
  • St. Luke Church of Christ will celebrate its choir anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, featuring special guests Johnny Faison and the Gospeltones of Raleigh, the St. Luke Male Choir of Goldsboro and soloist, Teddy.
  • Little Rock Church of Christ, 1307 N.C. Highway 581, Pikeville, will celebrate its 139th church anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. with Elder Rodney Core set to deliver the message. Dinner will be served. Little Rock Church of Christ invites you to come and celebrate. The theme of the event will be “God did it again.”
  • Mark your calendar and save the date of Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. for an appreciation of musician Brother Patrick Atkinson Sr. at Goshen Disciple Church in Faison. The event will feature special guests, Designed For Purpose, The Wade Sisters, Kingdom Builders of Goldsboro, and Lamanuel Boykin and Company of Wilmington. The pastor Elder Donald DeWitt and Goshen Church family invite you to join them in showing love to Pat Atkinson who has been the church’s musician and lead singer for many years.
  • You are invited to come and help celebrate 18 years of community service for yours truly, Glenda Ward Davis, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at St. Luke Church of Christ, 636 Waller Road, which will host special guest Bishop Richard Johnson and the St. Peter Church choir, usher and congregation of Smithfield. I have served many churches in the areas far and near.

    Thanks and well wishes

    A special thank you to Elder Kenneth and Mother Vesta Freeman along with the St. Luke Church family for such an amazing, awesome service on Sunday afternoon as love was shown to Sister Teresa Baker. A thank you to Apostle Nancy and Elder Wiley Reid; Design for Purpose; soloist, Teddy, and special guest the Jackson sisters; trustee Charles Kornegay, chairman trustee Linda Moore, and Sister Theresa Jackson for that wonderful welcome to all of the musicians; and a special thank you to Jonathan Williams’ musical group, Women On the Move; every church that represented; and to the many, many people who showed their love.

    We say thank you, thank you. What an amazing, anointed and blessed celebration it was.

    In memoriam

    Our prayers, sympathy and love are with the family of Mrs. Joyce Faison, who was 81 when she died Sunday, Aug. 18, at Sampson Memorial Hospital in Clinton. A homegoing celebration was held at noon on Friday at Poplar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Faison, with a burial following in the Cobb Cemetery in Faison. Joyce leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Mondrick “Little Bud” Faison of the home; her daughter, Percilla Faison; and one son, Freeman Faison Jr. of Wilson. Please keep the Faison family in your prayers. Garris Funeral Home handled the service.
