It is now a done deal, set in stone.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9959 of Mount Olive now own the old Waylin Community Swim Pool and property that adjoins their post facility.
The director of the Family Y in Goldsboro met with local VFW officials in a deed transfer signing ceremony at town hall in Mount Olive on Thursday of last week to make the transfer of the property official.
Family Y director John Richards signed the deed and it was officially notarized by Town of Mount Olive administrative assistant Sherry Davis.
She turned the property deed over to VFW Post Commander Ray Harrell and Senior Vice Commander Jabo Martin.
What will happen from here is “a vision,” said VFW Post Commander Harrell.
He said whatever it turns out to be it will be aimed at enhancing the community.
Harrell noted the first thing the veteran post members will  be doing is “clean the place up.”
It has been vacant for a number of years and has grown up and become an eyesore.
Harrell said once the property is cleaned up and presentable “to the area then plans will get under way about what the future for the community swim pool can hold the for the town.
“This is gong to be an ongoing project,” Harrell noted.
Harrell was asked if there is a possibility something could be partnered and done with Mount Olive College.
He said it is an issue he has not been asked about, but something that could be discussed.
“We just want to make sure this is a project to be done that will be something for the community to enjoy and benefit from. That’s what we are all about,” Harrell said.
