Classic car gala takes Mt. Olive back in time
By Erica Vaught, staff writer
30 October 2008 –Ahhh...the feeling of the good ole days! On Saturday, Oct. 11 Mount Olive went back in time with music and classic cars.
The Southeastern North Carolina Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America held its annual car show in downtown as folks showed off their cars and ate good food. People from all over came to show off their “rides” including Edward and Eunice Whaley of Kinston, who brought their 1930 Studebaker. Fun was had by all. Even little two-year old Hanna Caruso couldn’t resist the day’s activities with her parents.
Another fun element was the appearance of Mr. Crisp from the Mount Olive Pickle Company. He waved and said hello to the children and posed for pictures for the car owners. Even Molly, a cocker spaniel puppy, enjoyed the show.
“We had a good crowd this year,” Jeff Westbrook, President of the North Carolina Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America, exclaimed. “I was afraid the weather wouldn’t turn out so well, but it did.” The weather that day began with a little drizzle but ended up just being cool and overcast-perfect for a car show.
