Donald Keith Outlaw
Donald Keith Outlaw, 74, of 335 Donald K. Outlaw Road, Seven Springs, passed away early Sunday morning, October 5, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.Outlaw
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m. at Outlaw’s Bridge Universalist Church in Seven Springs. A private graveside will be held at a later date.
Donald Keith was born in Duplin County on October 29, 1933, to the late Gordon and Ethel Outlaw. He served in the US Coast Guard and was a farmer and active member in the community. He was a lifetime member of Outlaw’s Bridge Church and retired from the Pricetown Volunteer Fire Department. In recent years, he worked for the Duplin County Waste Recycling Facility. Known as “Unk” to his nieces and nephews, he will be remembered for his kindheartedness, sense of humor, and devotion to his family and friends.
Donald Keith is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Letha Hill Outlaw of the home; his daughter, Pam Pate and husband, Roger, of Seven Springs; his son, Mickey Outlaw and wife, Shirley, of Seven Springs; his special sister-in law, whom he considered his daughter, Violet Saviak and husband, Mike, of Mount Olive; his grandchildren, Jonathan Barwick and wife, Paige, of Mount Olive, Alexis Harvell and husband, James, of Seven Springs, and Don Outlaw of the home, Mandy Lane and husband, Jason, of Mount Olive, and Brandon Pate of Mount Olive; his great-grandchildren, Maddie Quinn, Tabitha and Billy Gallaher; his siblings, Mary Lewis of Goldsboro, Elsie Taylor and husband, R.J., of Albertson, Michael Outlaw and wife, Jean, of Fayetteville, and Ivey Outlaw and wife, Dolly, of Seven Springs; his brothers-in-law, Tommy Hill and wife, Dot, of Wilmington, Bill Hill and friend, Darlene, of Fayetteville, Joe Hill and his wife, Loretta, of Pikeville, Douglas Hill and his wife, Joyce, of Mount Olive; his canine companion, Odie; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pattie Outlaw.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at the church and other times at the home, 335 Donald K. Outlaw Road, Seven Springs.

Marilyn Smith Taylor
Marilyn Dale Smith Taylor, 52, died Monday, September 29, 2008, at SunBridge Care Center in Mount Olive. Taylor
Born in Cumberland County and a former resident of Hope Mills, she was a special education school teacher. Southern Academy in Mount Olive was her last place of employment. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, worshipping at the Mount Olive ward. She and her husband were former residents of Eagles Nest Road, Dudley.
Her father, Henry Alton Smith, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Bryan L. Taylor of Glen-Care of Mount Olive; her mother, Linnie Smith of Wilmington; four sons, Jared Daniel Taylor and wife, Amanda of Johnson City, Tenn., Jason Lawrence Taylor of Seven Springs, Alton Ray Taylor and wife, Stacy, of Limestone,Tenn., and Lonnie Aaron Taylor of Dudley; two sisters, Barbara Gail Culbreth of Hope Mills, and Debbie Lynn Dumas of Spring Lake; and six grandchildren, Caleb, Julianna, Anthony, Chase, Andrew, and Aidan Taylor.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 4, at 10:30 a.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Bishop Richard Brown conducted the service. Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery, Seven Springs. The family received friends at Tyndall Funeral Home on Friday night, October 3, from 7 until 9 p.m.

Minnie “Peggy” McFarland
Minnie “Peggy” McFarland, 70, of Mount Olive, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at Windsor Point Nursing Home. She was born in Duplin County to the late Jake and Lesie Smith Foss and was married to the late Robert L. McFarland.
Graveside services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Mr. Rick Pridgen officiated.
Mrs. McFarland is survived by one son, Robert E. McFarland and wife, Robin of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Susie M. Willis and husband, Barry of Angier; brothers, Jordan Foss and wife, Johnnie of New Bern, Joe Foss and wife, Mollie of Faison and Raven Foss and wife, Sherry of Faison; sisters, Joan Price and husband, Daryl of Kenansville and Linda Millard and husband, Joseph of Faison; and grandchildren, William, Nickolas and Jeffrey.
The family received friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home of Goldsboro and at other times will be at the home of her daughter, Susie M. Willis.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, PO Box 490, New Bern NC 28563 or The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford NC 27565.

Pattie S. Reaves
Pattie Summerlin Reaves, 96, long time Mount Olive resident, died Friday, October 3 at Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Olive, officiated by Dr. Dennis R. Atwood.
A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive, she was a native of Mt. Olive, daughter of the late George & Emma Aaron Summerlin. She and her husband, the late James Reaves, owned and operated Reaves Cafe in Mt. Olive for many years.
Survived by sons, Jimmy Reaves and wife, Betty of Myrtle Beach, SC, George Reaves of Raleigh, and Richard “Dickie” Reaves and wife, Brenda of Mt. Olive; a sister, Elizabeth S. Hines of Mt. Olive; grandson, Chris Reaves and wife, Melissa of Wilmington; great-grandchiild, Camren Grace.

Davie O. Jones
Davie O. Jones, 58, of Selma, died Tuesday, Sept. 23.
Born March 1, 1950, in Wayne County, Mr. Jones was the son of Reba Smalls Jones and the late Wilbert “Pete” Jones. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. For most of his adult life, Mr. Jones was a metal-fabrication supervisor at Channel Master in Smithfield.
The funeral was held Thursday, September 25 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, with the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Price Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, LaVerne Jones; two daughters, Traci Peedin of South Carolina and Tamela Wemmett of Hope Mills; a son, Davie Jones Jr. of Princeton; two brothers, Bill Jones of Dudley and Timmy Jones of Pink Hill; and seven grandchildren.

John Robert Newkirk
Mr. John Robert Newkirk, better known as “Johnnie”, 75, died Monday, October 6, 2008, at Duplin General Hospital, Kenansville.
“Johnnie” is the son of the late Lula Newkirk and was reared by his grandmother the late Anginola Newkirk in Pender County.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 11, at 12 noon from the Rose Hill Funeral Home Chapel, 472 Wells Town Road, Rose Hill, with Pastor Travis Newkirk officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Funeral Home Cemetery, Hwy 903, Magnolia.
Mr. Newkirk leaves to cherish his memories a special cousin Minister Antron Hayes of Rose Hill; three special friends: Mrs. Alberta Vann-Sloan, Ms. Gertie Moore and Ms. Elaine Farrior all of Magnolia; the entire Wallace Gardens Family, many other relatives and friends.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 472 Wells Town Road, Rose Hill.

Delilah Bell
Delilah Bell died Wednesday, October 1 at Sunbridge Nursing Care.

William R. Carr Sr.
William Ray Carr Sr., 85, of Goldsboro, died Tuesday, September 30 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.Carr
The funeral was held Thursday, October 2 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Goldsboro. The burial followed at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Carr was a native of Wayne County and was the son of John Spicer Carr, Sr. and Hattie Mae Cogdell Carr. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his children, Jan Aycock and husband, Allen of Fremont, Bill Carr and wife, Vanessa of Ararat, Va., Kathy Collins and husband, Norman, of Goldsboro, Jeanne Cupp and husband, Stan of Willow Springs, John Carr and wife, Nancy of Clayton, Jim Carr and friend, Sheila Hinnant of Goldsboro, Robert Carr and wife, Robyn of Saint Johns, Fla., and daughter-in-law Dawn Carr of Goldsboro; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Spicer Carr Jr. of Mount Olive; and two sisters, Viola Clinnard and her husband, Dempsey of Greensboro and Jewel Casey of Kinston.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Everette Jinnette Carr; two brothers, Livius Marion and Pete Carr and Edward Glenn Carr; sister, Louise Carr Ingram; and a grandson, Stephen Mark Carr.

MorganErvin Morgan Jr.
Ervin Morgan Jr., 79, of Goldsboro, died Thursday, October 2 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at First Congregational Church Cemetery in Dudley.
One daughter, Linda McBride of Dudley, survives.
Condolences may be forwarded to the home of his daughter, 2626 Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley, N.C. 28333.

Harold G. Lewis Sr.
Harold “Buster” Glenn Lewis Sr., 68, of Kenansville, died Saturday, Oct. 4 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial followed in Pikeville Cemetery.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late David and Hazel Sullivan Lewis. Buster was a line crew supervisor with the City of Kinston and attended Warsaw Pentecostal Holiness Church. He served his county in the U.S. Army.
Surviving is his wife: Patricia “Patsy” Sutton Lewis; sons, Harold Glenn Lewis Jr. and wife Janet of Kenansville and Daniel Earl Lewis and friend Jamie Norris of Mt. Olive; sister, Helene Lewis Salvato of West Orange, N.J.; brother, David Earl Lewis and wife Marie of Pikeville; and seven grandchildren.

Clarence Thomas Potter
Clarence Thomas “Tommy” Potter, 59, of Highway 11 and 903 N. in Kenansville, died Sunday at New Hanover Regional from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. Burial followed in Pate Family Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Community Funeral Home.
Mr. Potter was born Sept. 5, 1949 to the late John Daniel and Ada Mae Pate Potter.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Milles Potter of the home; son, Brandon Potter and wife, Christy; daughter, Lea Futrell and husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Chase and J.R. Potter; sisters, Shelva Jean Brock, Dorothy Kornegay and husband, Donald, all of Kenansville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Addie Mae Chambers.
