Carver welcomes six new teachers, administration

11 September 2008 – Along with a new Assistant Principal, a new sign language interpreter, and a new social worker, six teachers and teaching assistants have joined the educational team at Carver Elementary School in Mount Olive.

Antoinette Ward is the new Assistant Principal. Ward has been in the educational system for 17 years. She previously taught at North Drive Elementary and Brogden Primary.

Tammy Summerlin is the new sign language interpreter and she also teaches Pre-K. Summerlin recently worked at School Street Elementary. She earned her Associate’s Degree for Sign Language Interpretation from Wilson Technical College in 2007.

Pam Sheffield is the new School Social Worker. Sheffield has been employed with the Wayne County educational system for 20 years. She is a licensed social worker for grades K-12 and she transferred from Goldsboro High. Sheffield is currently enrolled in the MSW (Masters of Social Work) program at Fayetteville Stare University.

Robert Smith, III is a new 2nd grade teacher. He recently graduated from East Carolina University this past May.

Patricia Carter is a new Kindergarten teacher at Carver Elementary. Carter received her teaching degree from Mount Olive College and has been teaching in Wayne County for 16 years. She recently taught at Meadow Lane.

Dianne Grantham is a new Instructional Assistant. Grantham does the testing for Southern Wayne High School and Carver Elementary. She began in January. She previously worked part time at the Wayne Community College Skills Department.

Natale Cromartie Nelson is a new 5th grade teacher. She has worked for Wayne County Public School for eight and a half years. Nelson recently taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Carver Heights Elementary.

Ivy Kornegay is a new Kindergarten teacher and Teaching Assistant. She is from Mount Olive and is currently majoring in Elementary Education through the Wachovia Partnership East at Wayne Community College and East Carolina University. This is Kornegay’s first year of teaching.

Mercedes Sanchez is a new ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. She is from Colombia, in South America, and has a Master’s degree from Buffalo University in New York. She has taught different grade levels from Kindergarten to middle school.
