The 21st Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, Aug. 28, at SWCC. The tournament is held in memory of Highway Patrolman Michael Martin, a MOC alumnus who was killed in the line of duty.

The 40th annual Mount Olive Jaycee Pickle Classic was won by the team of Don Hill and Jay Joyner who fired a 19-under-par score for the two-day tournament. Tom Aquino and Buck Greer won second place, with third place going to Ryan and Brandon Campbell. In fourth place was the team of Judson Pope and Tony Herring.

The first flight was won by Mark Raynor and David Brown, with Bobby Peterson and Troy Stephenson in second place. Third place was won by Brent Parrish and Bob Yow, and fourth went to Kenny Moore and Darren Stephens.

The second flight was won by Don Garris and Billy Potter. In second place was the team of Robin Albertson and Terry Hardison, with Zoot Saunders and Randy Hunter in third place and Doug Brock and Bobby Frye fourth.

The third flight was won by Sprunt Hill and Stuart Hobbs. Second place went to Ted Funderburk and Eddie Keith, with Ronald Barwick and Sammy Bradford third and John Newsome and Milton Smith placing fourth.

The fourth flight was won by Bryce Morrison and Jeff Morrison. Rounding out the top four were Willie Robinson and Tad Gosnell; Jeff Leonard and Glen Cannon; and Sam Irvin and Bill Long.

The fifth flight was won by Dale Funderburk and Randy Collins.

Rounding out the top four were Lefty Plante and Paul Woodworth, Hilton Newman and John Newell, and Billy Brock and Alex Wingate

The sixth flight was won by John Edwards and Dabney Smith.

Rounding out the top four were Billy and Dave Boone, Bill Pickle and Paul Housman, and Banks Currin and Bob Gullier.

The seventh flight was won by the team of David Bowden and Edward Sykes. Rounding out the top four were Matthew Hart and Bennie Murphy, Bob Hestkind and Joe Cobb, and Scott Grady and Sam Britt.

The eighth flight was won by Mike Stokes and Tyler Gross. Rounding out the top four were Keith Evans and Jim Burks, Robert Hardin and Nathan Johnson, and Paul Powell and Bob Phillips.

As always, the Mount Olive Jaycees did an outstanding job of making sure the tournament was conducted as smooth as could be.
Chairman Ernie Taylor expressed his thanks to the following who put forth an extra effort to help make the weekend a great success: Lindsay Lee, Brooks Daly, Kristy Thornton, Tyler Barwick, Faith Wright, Amanda Ballree, Matt Wiggins, Ashley Wiggins, Sarah Barwick, Jonathan Barwick, John Bell and Page Barwick. Special helpers were Judy Smith, Marie Kelley and Debbie Vickory.

Taylor also expressed his thanks to SWCC pro Howard Hunt and his crew for all their assistance.
