Police nab two on drug charges

14 August 2008 –By William Holloman, staff writer

Drug charges were filed by Mount Olive Police against two town residents stopped during routine traffic checks.

In other police activity during a relatively quiet week, officers are looking into the theft of a gold bracelet stolen from a residence.
Officers said Charles Edward Faison of 217 South Center Street was jailed on a charge of simple possession of a controlled substance.

The incident occurred during a traffic stop and Faison was a passenger in the vehicle, police said.

The filed report said police confiscated two bags of a “leafy green” substance.

They also stated Faison is believed to have swallowed another “unknown substance.”

Faison was jailed in lieu of a $700 bond and faces the charge in Wayne District Court on October 10.

Police said Faison had to be pepper sprayed and pulled from the vehicle.

Another drug violation resulted when police charged 45-year-old George A. Whitfield, no address listed, with possession of a crack pipe during a traffic stop.

He was also charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Patricia Ann Atkinson of 311 South Johnson Street reported the theft of a gold bracelet valued at $50.

She told police the bracelet was taken from her purse.
