Obituaries Issue of 14 August
14 August 2008 –
Cleo Armwood
Cleo Armwood, 78, of Washington, D.C., died Tuesday, August 5 at his residence.
He was born in Sampson County to the late Almond and Hepsie Simmons Armwood.
The funeral was Monday at 1 p.m. at the Northeast F.W.B. Church, E. James St. Mount Olive, with the Rev. James Grimes, officiating. Burial followed in the Armwood Family Cemetery in Faison.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Armwood; seven children.
Viewing was held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Garris Funeral Home Chapel and the family was present from 6 to 7 p.m. to receive friends.

Margie Bizzell
Margie Mae Lewis Bizzell, 56, died at her home Thursday, July 31.
She was born to the late Amaziah Lewis Sr. and Sevelia Lewis on August 22, 1951 in Wayne County.
She graduated from Central High School in 1969. She lived and worked most of her life in Goldsboro.
Funeral services for Margie Mae were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church with the Rev. Donovan Washington officiating. Interment was in the Old Mill Cemetery.
Margie “PeeWee”, as she was known by family and friends, leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Sherri Lewis and Danielle Lewis, both of the home; one grandson, Aquayvion, of the home; six sisters Lue Jean Wright, Teresa Artis and Marchell Lewis all of Dudley, Vera Lofton and husband, Oscar, and Frances Wooten and husband, Ricky, of Goldsboro; Queenie Reinhardt and husband, Albert, of Paterson, NJ; three brothers Amaziah Lewis Jr. and wife, Fannie, of LaGrange, Leroy Lewis and wife, Lois, of Clayton and John E. Lewis of Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters-in-law Mildred Lofton Lewis of Goldsboro and Doris Wooten Lewis; four aunts Martha Lewis Richardson, Emma Lewis Jones and Daisy Ford and husband, Nathaniel, all of Goldsboro, John L. Cox of the Parkstown community; two uncles Lawyer Lewis and wife, Carrie, of Goldsboro, William Lewis and wife, Shirley, of Temple Hill, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel. The family received friends at the home of her sister, 208 Ward St., Dudley.
Arrangements are being handled by Rhodes Funeral Home of Goldsboro.
Margaret Davis
Margaret Browning Noble Davis, 87, 2200 Glenhaven Lane, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Thursday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Jimmy Whitfield and pastor Billy Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
A native of Elloree, S.C., she was preceded in death by her husbands James Frederick Noble and Wendal H. Davis. Mrs. Davis was a life member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church. A retired waitress, she and her husband owned and operated Davis Barbecue and Grill and she had also worked at Wayne Community College.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughters, Annette Abadie and husband Pardee of Fairfax, Va., Sylvia Jean Carter and husband William Ray Carter of Dudley; three grandchildren, Michael Ray Carter of Kernersville, Amy Carter Scott and husband Andrew of LaGrange, and Kevin Abadie of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two great-granddaughters, Rianna and Kelsey Scott; sisters, Glennie Langston and Jannie Valentine of Cameron, S.C.; brother, William Earl Browning of Elloree, S.C.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times will be at her residence.
Winsor F. Ingram Sr.
Winsor Frank Ingram Sr., 78, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Ten children survive.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Mount Olive, with the Rev. John Wicard officiating. Visitation was from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro.
The family will received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday night at the Holy Temple Holiness Church, Calypso.
Mary E. King
Mary Edna Kornegay King, 74, passed away Saturday evening at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Mount Olive. Born in Duplin County on Jan. 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Bernice and Myrtle Jernigan Kornegay and was preceded in death by a son, Gary N. King, and a sister, Sallie Gray Kornegay Roberts. She was a member of Rones Chapel United Methodist Church and was retired from National Spinning and farming.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Delmar W. King; two sons, Glenn W. King of Seven Springs and Gerald B. King and wife, Cindy, of Mount Olive; two brothers, C.B. Kornegay and wife, Margaret, of Mount Olive, and Don Kornegay and wife, Dorothy, of Kenansville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Family members greeted friends Tuesday evening immediately following the funeral service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, Gerald B. King, 444 Garner Chapel Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
Flowers are welcome, and memorial gifts may be directed to the Rones Chapel United Methodist Church, 138 Garner Chapel Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.

Mary Southerland
Mrs. Mary Southerland, age 80, formerly of Duplin County, died Sunday, August 3 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY.
Funeral services were held from the Yeshuwa Temple, Wallace, on Saturday, August 9, at 3 p.m., Apostle Davelon Carr officiating. Burial followed at Duplin Memorial Gardens, Teachey.
Her survivors include one son: Norman Southerland, Spring Valley, NY; one daughter: Pauline Corbett, Spring Valley, NY; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation of family and friends was held on Friday, August 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. from Rose Hill Funeral Home, 472 Wells Town Road, Rose Hill.
Lois P. Mitchell
Mrs. Lois Pittman Mitchell, 73, of 3705 Central Heights Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday at the Sterling House. A native of Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Pittman and Zettie Bass Pittman. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and had also retired from Barry’s. She was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services were 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woods Grove PFWB Church with the Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Interment was at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Grover Mitchell; sons, the Rev. Jerry Mitchell and wife, Diane, Ronnie Mitchell and wife, Carolyn, and Don Mitchell and wife, Lori, all of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Brad, Gabe, Tyler and Casey Mitchell, April Shaffer and Tonya Slagle; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Christine Mitchell of Goldsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
The Mitchell family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Sterling House staff for their care and love given to Mrs. Lois and her family.
The family will receive friends Tuesday following the service at the church and will be at the residence at other times.
The family is being served by Seymour Funeral Home.
Hellen Lee Swinson
Hellen Lee Parker Swinson, 87, died Monday, August 11, at Universal Health Care in Raleigh. She was formerly of the Beautancus community near Mount Olive.
A native of Pitt County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Eugene Parker and Pearl Tyson Parker. She was retired from the N.C. Dept. of Transportation where she had been a clerk in the bridge maintenance division. She was a member of Bear Marsh Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Liston Swinson; an infant daughter, Ina Sue Swinson; two brothers, Jack Parker and Dawson Parker; and two sisters, Ruth Grady and Josie Lane.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee and Betty Jean Swinson of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Michelle Beverly and husband, Robby, and Todd Swinson and wife, Audra, of Wake Forest; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan Beverly, Morgan Beverly, Claire Swinson, Alec Swinson, Christian Swinson, Julian Swinson, and Lauren Swinson; and two sisters, Frances Outlaw of Kinston, and Mary E. Shickert of Wilmington.
Services were held Wednesday, August 13, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Garris officiated. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
