Spree of break-ins hit Mount Olive
By William Holloman, staff writer
7 August 2008 – A number of break-ins, including the theft of a $13,000 jet ski from one local resident, are under investigation by Mount Olive Police.
And, in another incident a local man was cited on three major charges, including possessing a weapon of mass destruction,
Jailed on that charge and other charges alleging assault by pointing a gun and possession of a firearm by a felon was Jeffrey Ward, 38, of 428 East Hillsboro Street.
Ward’s bond was set at $100,000 for the allegations involving the sawed off 12 gauge shotgun.
He is accused of pointing it at Patricia Ann Faison of 412 Franklin Street.
The charges stemmed after police responded to a 911 call.
Hunter Roy Cottle of 304 North Breazeale Avenue reported the theft of the $13,000 jet ski from his residence.
A television and laptop computer valued at $1,200 was taken in a break-in at the home of India Fowler of 103 McDonald Drive.
Police said entry was gained by kicking in a door.
Thieves also took a television and DVD/VCR combination in a break-in at the home of Jerry Almond of 207 Oliver Street.
No value was listed for the stolen property.
Sonya Rivera of 209 South Center Street reported an entry at her residence and the theft of a cell phone, $80 cash, and a 22 caliber rifle.
Two tool boxes and tolls valued at $450 were stolen from a truck parked at the home of William Cecil Frederick of 1027 South Center Street.
Police are investigating a robbery complaint filed by Juan Santiago Gonzalez of 406 South Center Street.
Gonzalez told police three black males robbed him of $60 cash in the 100 block of Kelly Street.
He suffered minor lacerations to the head during the robbery, police said in a report.
Thieves who broke into NAPA Auto Parts on Breazeale Avenue took a window fan unit, a carburetor and fuel pump with a total value of $700.
Police officer Kasey Faulk filed a report that he apparently lost his wallet while cutting grass at Kelly’s Paint and Body Shop on Center Street.
The off duty officer said he discovered his wallet was gone while at lunch and he found it placed on a fence rail, when he returned.
However, important papers, bank cards, driver’s license, his police badge and other items had been removed.
