Cate appointed Tribune editor

  John Cate31 July 2008 – John Cate has been appointed editor of the Mount Olive Tribune, effective Thursday, July 31.

Mr. Cate has been employed with the Mount Olive Tribune since May 19. He joined the Tribune staff after working on the Fred Smith gubernatorial campaign this spring. Previously, he was employed as editor of the Garner News and Cleveland Post between 1999 and 2007, and has also served as sports editor of the Henderson Daily Dispatch and Garner News.

He is a four-time N.C. Press Association award winner, in the categories of sports news and general news reporting, and has more than 15 years of experience in journalism. He won first place in the state for sports news reporting in the Community Newspapers division for 2006.

Mr. Cate graduated from Northern Nash Senior High School in 1990. He attended Nash Community College and is currently completing his bachelor’s degree requirements at Strayer University. He is engaged and resides in the Mount Olive area.
