Car crash claims lives of pair of local 18-year-olds
Andrew Britt, left, and Carlisle Purvis were fatally injured on Saturday night, when a 1999 Mercury Sable driven by Britt struck a Progress Energy truck at about 10:40 p.m. while traveling northbound on Grantham School Road. Police have since said that both men had consumed alcohol prior to the accident, but have not said whether either was intoxicated or if the alcohol played a factor in the accident. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, the accident was precipitated when Britt overcorrected after driving off the road to the right and then crossed the center of the road, where he struck the truck head-on. Both men, who graduated from Southern Wayne High School earlier this summer, were laid to rest on Tuesday evening. |
