Jack L. Anderson
Jack Lynwood Anderson, 63, of Lake Charles, La. passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 in his residence.
On the Fourth of July 2008 we bid final farewell to our dad, Jack Lynwood Anderson of Mount Olive, NC.  Born in February 1945, he played football all through high school and would have made it to the NFL were it not for that “knee injury.”  Instead he became an avid and lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan.   Dad served in the US Army for 23 years, joining in 1965 as infantryman and later changing to military police before retiring as First Sergeant in 1988.  He loved being a soldier and never stopped identifying himself as such - famously wearing his “Top Retired” hat where ever he went.  He continued his service to the nation with the Navy at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia as a Security Specialist until retiring for good in 2006.  Dad was a man of few words, but always generous and proud of his family and especially the accomplishments of his children.  His “legacy” lives on through the friends he leaves behind and his family.  “We already miss you Dad, Jack , Opa and little brother.”
He leaves to honor his memory, his son, Army Lieutenant Colonel Terry Anderson and wife Cindy of Washington, D.C.; his daughter, Geraldine Harrell and husband Richard of Sulphur, LA; three grandchildren, Shelby Anderson and Mitchell Anderson and Jack Harrell; his former wife and dear friend, Marion Anderson of Frankfurt, Germany, his sister, Betty Ruth Brock of Mt. Olive and his half brother, JD Waters of Mt. Olive.
He was preceded in death by parents, John Allen Anderson and Eula Gertrude Herring; one brother, Nelson Anderson and one sister, Annie Sue Burroughs.
He will be laid to rest with a service of Military Honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net.
