Town, MOC to discuss development plan
10 July 2008–By William Holloman, staff writer
Details of a comprehensive, long range development master plan for Mount Olive College will be discussed at a July 15 joint meeting of college officials and the Town of Mount Olive.
The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the conference room at town hall.
While there are no new details relative to the master plan, town manager Charles Brown said the session is routine and designed to keep the town informed as to master plan progress.
MOC currently has one of the most aggressive campus building plans of any four-year institution in the nation.
Brown said it is amazing what the college is doing.
He said it is all vital in the growth of the entire area, and the town’s concern is making sure it is always prepared to handle the water and sewer needs of the college.
Brown said he does not see any problem with the town meeting those infrastructure needs.
“They have a long range master plan, and they do an excellent job in keeping us informed with what’s going on with it. We just do a periodic review, and have our engineer look at it to make sure there are no unknown concerns,” said the Mount Olive town manager.
He added, “They are one of the fast-growing institutions in the nation, but we see no problems at all in meeting their water/sewer needs.
Brown called the college “good citizens to have.”
“They are very conscious of the environment and drainage issues that could be created by such rapid growth. They are excellent people to work with,” he concluded.
