Thieves clean out backyard, take more than $6,000 worth of goods

A Seven Springs man was the victim of an apparent late-night theft, resulting in the loss of more than $6,000 in assorted items from his backyard, according to reports released by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Travis Creech, of 103 Red Hawk Trail, reported that numerous items stored in his yard were missing at about 7 a.m. on Monday, June 30. Sometime between 10 p.m. the previous night and then, an unknown individual or individuals entered his property and removed a 660 Yamaha Raptor ATV valued at $3,500, a utility trailer valued at $1,200, a DeWalt construction set valued at $550, a 5,000-watt generator valued at $500, and a wire welder, Poulan chainsaw, four new tires, assorted power and hand tools and a lock and chain set, all with a combined value of $955.

The case remains under investigation at this time.

Gustavo Gaspar, of 906 Pecan Rd., Dudley, became the victim of a thief sometime between June 27 and 30, when he noticed that a 1997 Kia Sephia had been removed from property belonging to him. The car had an estimated value of $1,500.

Several residents in the 100 block of Robin Lake Drive in Dudley were the victims of an apparent vandal or group of vandals on the evening of Thursday, June 26, when seven residents reported damaged mailboxes and one of those residents also reported that yard lights in her yard were also damaged. The case remains under investigation.

Lee Hanson, of 130 Running Deer Circle, Dudley, reported than an unknown suspect had thrown a rock through a single-pane window in his home around 10 p.m. on Monday, June 30.

Stacie Black, of 130 Moore Allen St., Dudley, reported the theft of a woman’s mountain bike valued at $300 and a baby bicycle trailer valued at $200 from her home sometime between the evening of Sunday, June 29 and 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, when the theft was discovered and reported.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in an alleged break-in which took place on Stevens Mill Road in Goldsboro on Sunday evening. The suspects, Darien Leon Blankenship, 38, and Michael Steven Nelms, 28, reside in eastern Sampson County at 836 Kenan Weeks Rd. and 107 Hurricane Lane, respectively.

The two men were stopped on Old Grantham Rd. and deputies located items allegedly stolen from the residence. They were charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny, and Blankenship was also charged with a concealed weapons violation. The men were held under $10,000 secured bond each.
