School system honors retirees

03 July 2008– After many years of dedicated service to Wayne County Public Schools, 80 retiring employees were recognized on Wednesday, June 18, at the district’s annual Retiree Appreciation Reception, held at the Goldsboro Country Club. Thelma Smith, Board of Education Chair, and Dr. Steven Taylor, Superintendent, commended the retirees for their commitment to students and education, and wished each of them well in their future endeavors. Each retiree also received a plaque for their service.

“All of you have been dedicated employees, and on behalf of Wayne County Public Schools, I want to say thank you,” stated Dr. Taylor. “We can hire another employee, but your individual touch and contribution to our district cannot be replaced. It does not matter what position you held in our district. All of you have made a difference in a child’s life.”

Marvin McCoy, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resource Services, also thanked the retirees for their cumulative 1,600+ years of dedicated service they provided to the district, and their cumulative 1,800+ total years in the education profession.

Kitty Cobb Harrell, Media Coordinator, *8 years, 30 years total
Inez L. Whitfield, Child Nutrition, *22 years

Spring Creek High
Judy L. Lewis, Teacher, *28 years, 35 years total
Roy K. Whitfield, Teacher, *30 years

School retirees

Teachers retiring from the Wayne County Public Schools were honored on Wednesday, June 18, at the county’s annual Retiree Appreciation Reception held at the Goldsboro Country Club. The retirees were commended for their commitment to students and presented with a plaque.
