Gas drive-off pays for fuel, rips nozzel
03 July 2008–By William Holloman, staff writer
No one knows who it was, and once who it was discovered what he had done, he probably tried to hide under a bush.
It was worse than a bad hair day.
Officials at the Friendly Mart #6 on North Breazeale Avenue usually report another one of those drive-offs without paying.
It was far from that this time.
Police say someone pumped gas, paid and then drove off.
Nothing wrong with that--but the gas nozzle was still inside the car that was driven away.
The nozzle and hose were torn away from the foundation.
At the time the complaint was filed with Mount Olive Police, company officials did not know what the damage was.
But the fellow didn’t come back.
In another gas drive-off without paying, officials at the Wilco Hess Mart on Highway 55 reported a drive-off and the theft of $122.69 in gas.
In other police activity, Thomas Green Robinson of 124 County Road reported the theft of a 3.3 liter VS Plymouth motor and engine hoist valued at $700.
He complained the motor and hoist were taken from his home.
James Grant Kornegay of 162 Cricket Ridge reported to police that someone broke into rental property at 413 South Johnson Street and removed a refrigerator valued at $200.
Charges alleging felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against 41-year-old Rickey Brent Herring of 2170 Tram Road.
Bond for Herring was set at $3,500 and he faces a preliminary hearing in Wayne District Court on July 31.
Police also filed a charge alleging misdemeanor larceny against 24-year-old Ronald Williams of 148 Bass Lake Drive.
Williams is accused of taking $60 from the wallet of another McDonald’s employee.
Police say they viewed a video in the employees’ locker room and have the video as evidence.
And, another counterfeit $20 has shown up at McDonald’s.
Police confiscated the fake bill.
It is the fourth incident of bogus money showing up in Mount Olive in recent weeks.
