Roses blooming for Dilda

Garden

staff photo by John Cate
26 June 2008 – Mount Olive College Professor Ken Dilda and Lavon-De Winn Driver unveil a plaque in honor of Dilda in a rose garden outside the David John Aaron Museum on Thursday morning. The rose garden was planted by members of the Adam Winn family and dedicated in honor of Dilda, the former president of the Mount Olive Area Historical Society. Adam Winn was instrumental in the founding of Mount Olive when, in 1838, he sold 19 acres of land to the nascent Wilmington & Weldon Railroad. His descendants have been active in the Mount Olive community since then. Dilda accepted the garden “in honor of all the members of the Historical Society,” and expressed the wish that it would be there for many years to come.
