Carver Alumni meeting July 3-6

26 June 2008 – By Al Southerland

The 26th annual Carver High School Alumni and Friends Homecoming Weekend Celebration is fast approaching and is sure to be one you will not want to miss. Hundreds of people will be coming together to celebrate the accomplishments of the Association and to reminisce about their times at Carver.

The event will be held Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6. The schedule for this year’s events can be found in the community news section of the Tribune on page 2.

Event organizers need golfers to come out and join them in the scholarship golf tournament. All profits from the tournament will be used for scholarships to help as many youth as possible to further their education. The cost is only $40 per golfer, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch and prizes.

Don’t forget to join us for the parade on Saturday morning. We begin the line-up in the back parking lot by the gym. Call me at 658-6710 if you would like to be in the parade.

Several classes have been meeting and making plans to attend the reunion and have separate events. If you haven’t been meeting as a class, it’s not too late to contact classmates and enjoy the weekend together.

The Class of 1968, my class, has been meeting and making plans to spend time together at this reunion. We are also creating a yearbook. We have been known for 40 years as the class without a yearbook, so we decided to change that. We will unveil our yearbook at the reception we have planned for Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Alumni building. All 1968 classmates are encouraged to attend.

All the reunion events are sure to be exciting. As they say, “if you can’t make them all, don’t miss them all.”

Until the reunion, “Keep the Carver Pride Alive.” Start flying those alumni flags now. Let’s bring that Carver pride to Mount Olive next week like never before.
