19 June 2008 – By William Holloman, staff writer
Reports involving activities of the Mount Olive Police Department included one that wound up in personal damage charges against one man that stemmed from a “he said, she said” incident.
Misdemeanor larceny and injury to personal property charges were lodged against 30-year-old Samuel Kornegay of 452 Genoa Road in Dudley.
Kornegay is accused with the larceny of motor vehicle tags from the car of Takeata Ashford of 109 Young Drive in Mount Olive.
Police said the woman accused Kornegay of taking her car tags and leaving $385 damage to her 201 Chevy Impala by smashing windows and letting the air out of the tires.
Police filed a report that stated, “he said she had the keys to his car and she said she would give him back the keys when he gave her back the tags.”
Kornegay was jailed in lieu of a $1,500 bond and faces the charges in Wayne District Court.
A thief or thieves who broke into the home of Tara Owens of 110 Azalea Drive stole a television and laptop computer with a combined value of $2,000.
Police said entry was made by forcing open a rear door.
Counterfeit bills continue to surface in Mount Olive.
The latest complaint came from officials at Andy’s on Breazeale Avenue.
A fake $10 bill that had been discovered was subsequently turned over to police.
A charge alleging misdemeanor simple possession of marijuana was filed against 19-year-old Jerry Mack Stevens of Warsaw.
Officer Jason Holliday said the charge resulted after he discovered small amounts of marijuana in a vehicle owned by Stevens.
He had searched the vehicle with Stevens’ permission after responding to a call complaining of gunfire on South Breazeale Avenue.
Officials at Anderson Heating and Air Conditioning at 106 East Church Street reported a break-in and the theft of three air conditioning coils valued at $750.
