Mount Olive man dies when car overturns

12 June 2008 – A Mount Olive man was killed Sunday afternoon when his car careened out of control while driving on Durham Lake Road in Dudley, crashing into a ditch. The driver, Craig Leshaun Darden, was ejected from his 1995 Cadillac, which subsequently landed on top of him, according to N.C. Highway Patrol reports.
Darden was reportedly exceeding the speed limit on the road when he crossed the center line. He apparently overcorrected, lost control of the car and struck a ditch. He was thrown out of the car, but the car continued overturning and landed on top of him. Darden was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

According to Johnston County Sheriff Department Reports, Jose Hernandez, 20, of Jake Dr. in Dudley was charged with no operators’ license on June 2 at 11:34 p.m. A $300 bond was set.
Darren Steven Pope, 18, of Tram Rd. in Mount Olive was charged with attempting to break or enter a building on June 2 at 1:43 p.m. A $5,000 bond was set.
